Newly passed Assembly Bill 5 could affect many freelance interpreters, as well as the entire profession. Learn about AB 5 and how to become more involved in advocacy as we seek a favorable resolution of this bill.
Importance of professionalism in the interpreting field is an ongoing issue among interpreter colleagues. Learn about ethical dilemmas, situations to avoid, and what makes an interpreter stand out in the field. (There will be specific examples and open discussion.) For freelancers, learn how to expand clientele, and reasons why some interpreters might have more work than others. Research will be discussed as to what providers and other professionals like to see in interpreters, who is currently hiring, and how to remain busy in this growing profession. As an interpreter, stress and vicarious trauma is unavoidable. Learn techniques of “self-care” for this profession.
