Learning objectives:

1.  Identify what types of memory are used when interpreting, e.g. short and long term memory
2. Improve memory techniques
3. Learn about the "art" of note taking and how to take notes without interfering with the message converter role


Lourdes L Cerna, CMI, is a Spanish interpreter and trainer with more than 30 years' of healthcare interpreting experience.  She has worked as a staff interpreter in person in both private and county hospitals and clinics, a freelancer covering workers' compensation assignments, and as an over-the-phone and video remote interpreter.

Ms. Cerna has also taught medical interpreting at several colleges and currently teaches a 40-hour training curriculum for an agency.

Ms. Cerna is a native of Guatemala.

She is a member of the Board of Directors for the California Healthcare Interpreting Association.
